Can you believe that we’ve nearly reached the end of 2017 already? I hope you all had a lovely Christmas spent with those closest to you. I’ve found that I’ve neglected the topic of beauty on my blog this year, it’s not something I’ve been writing about as much so I thought I’d share a round-up of all my favourite products throughout the year with you today. This looks set to be quite a lengthy post but i hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
Too Faced has definitely proven to be my favourite makeup brand of the year and I think you’ll realise that throughout this post. One of my favourite products by them this year has to be the Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette. It was the palette I reached for everyday for quite a long while and I always love creating different looks with it. All the colours are stunning and the pigmentation is second to none aswell.
If I want to create a little bit of a different eyeshadow look then the Anastasia Beverly Hills modern renaissance palette has been the one I’ve reached for. This palette is filled with pretty pink and red toned shades which always deliver a great colour payoff. It does have a bit of fall out but I’ve loved using this palette when wanting to try out a different makeup look.
Sticking on the theme of eyeshadow, this water eyeshadow by KIKO has been one I’ve been reaching for on a daily basis recently. This particular shade is in the number 200 and it’s a stunning gold shade which is quite possibly one of my favourite colours to wear on my eyes as I find it brings out the green in them. After applying the shadow on to my brush I spritz a little water on to it and it intensifies the colour and makes it even prettier if that’s possible. I love it.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while then you will have heard me mention this product in a couple of posts before. I’m lucky in the sense that I have naturally long eyelashes so I don’t find the need to wear coloured mascara but on the days where I want to add a little extra definition to my lashes, this clear lash gel by The Body Shop is the one I reach for.
I hate to admit it but i am that person who is very self-conscious of their skin so a good concealer is a must in my everyday makeup bag. I’ve tried quite a few concealers, mainly from the high street and then I came across this one by Too Faced. I’m not gonna lie, it is quite pricey but it’s worth it in my opinion. It provides such a great amount of coverage and doesn’t crease under my eyes. I’m currently using my third one of these right now so I think that proves how much I love it.
I think that L’oreal do some of the best foundations on the high street. I used their original infallible 24hr matte foundation for the first half of this year but I recently discovered the total cover foundation from the same range and it quickly became one of my favourites. I’d say it provides medium to full coverage which is perfect for me and it lasts about six or seven hours without starting to fade away but even then I just add a little bit of powder and it stays put for another couple of hours, in my case anyway. There is a good colour selection to choose from as there is with many of L’oreal’ foundations, I personally use the lightest shade in the range as I’m quite pale but it’s a good match for my skin.
As I said before, I have really pale skin so I often feel like I need to add a bit of colour to it and I’ve been reaching for the Soap&Glory solar powder to do that for the most part of this year. There are two shades in the compact, one darker and one lighter. I tend to swirl my brush in both shades and apply it to where the sun would naturally hit my skin. It just provides that extra bit of colour which I most often than not really need. It’s a great colour aswell and isn’t orange in the slightest.
I wasn’t one for wearing lipsticks and glosses before this year, I only wore them for special occasions and just reached for lip balm on an everyday basis but I’ve been reaching for lipsticks more so than usual in the past few months and one of my favourites has to be this L’oreal color riche in the shade ‘235 nude’. It’s a very neutral light pink shade, perfect for everyday and although it does wear off when eating or drinking, I find it’s really easy to reapply. It’s just the perfect shade to throw into my handbag and apply throughout the day.
This is the last Too Faced product, I promise. If I feel like wearing more of a liquid lipstick I’ve been reaching for this creamy lip oil, again from Too Faced’ Sweet Peach collection. This is in the shade ‘Papa don’t peach’ which is a lovely peachy/pink shade and I find that it’s quite hydrating whenever I wear it. Again, it does wear off when eating/drinking but even if I don’t reapply it, there is still a subtle hint of colour left behind and I prefer that sometimes.
If I feel like wearing a matte lip then I’ll opt for this soft matte lip cream by NYX in the shade ‘London’. It’s a muted nude kind of colour in my opinion and although I find it’s a little harder to apply than the other lip products I’ve mentioned, it’s still a really pretty colour, also perfect for everyday.
I invested in a full set of Zoeva makeup brushes at the beginning of the year and I’m so glad that I did. The set came with all the brushes that anyone would ever need in their makeup collection and although they were pricey, I’ve definitely been able to get my money’s worth out of them. They are such good quality, just what I needed in my makeup brush collection.
Skin and body care
I’ve only ever tried one product by Caudalie as I believe it’s only available online in the UK (correct me if I’m wrong) but I love the product that I’ve tried which is why it’s making an appearance in this post. I’m talking about one of their most popular products which is the beauty elixir. I especially loved this product during summer as I could spray it onto my skin and instantly feel refreshed. I have also been using it recently to spritz on to my makeup brushes when I want to intensify my eyeshadow shade, maybe I’m not supposed to do that but it hasn’t irritated my eyes or anything so so far so good I guess. I’ve also heard that some people use it as a makeup setting spray, I personally haven’t but I might give that a go. It does give my skin that instant boost of refreshment though and it’s really good at calming my skin if it’s feeling irritated.
I’ve used two tubs of this moisturizer this year and it’s by far one of my all time favourite moisturizers, especially for the winter months. It’s very creamy and rich and the scent is absolutely stunning. It’s a part of The Body Shop’s spa of the world range which comes at a slightly higher price tag but it’s definitely worth it in my opinion.
You might remember that I wrote a review of the Zoella Beauty Jelly & Gelato range a few months ago now and this is one of the products I reviewed from that range. I find that body scrubs can often be very harsh and irritating on my skin but this is definitely the opposite to that. As it’s a cream scrub, it exfoliates the skin as it should but isn’t irritating or harsh in the slightest which is why I love it. The scent is also lovely and I think it’s such a great value for money.
I know this has been quite a long post already but this is the final category I promise. One of my favourite scents of this year has been the Emporio Armani diamonds perfume. I was very kindly gifted this perfume by my friend Holly for my birthday back in July and I instantly fell in love with it. I’m not the best at describing scents so I won’t even try to but according to Armani the top notes are Lychee and raspberry. I’d say that it’s a very classy feminine fragrance.
Marc Jacobs is one of my favourite brands when it comes to perfume, my mum and I have tried quite a few of the fragrances between us and we love them. The dot perfume is quite a fruity scent in my opinion, according to the Boots website the top notes are red berries so I must be right with that one. It’s been my everyday scent for the past couple of months and I love it. It also lingers on the skin for a while which is always a bonus.
And there we have it, a round-up of all my favourite products throughout the year, I hope you enjoyed reading. What are some of your favourite beauty products from 2017? I’d love to know what you’ve been loving as I’m always on the hunt for new beauty products to try (as if I don’t have enough already!) I hope you all enjoy the rest of the festivities if you’re still celebrating and I hope you have a really happy new year.
