Just over a year ago, I made the conscious decision to put myself out there and start sharing my life online. In that time I’ve talked all things beauty and lifestyle whilst also giving you a glimpse into my life as a vision impaired person and dropping a few facts relating to my condition.
But behind the full coverage foundation and perils of sight loss, who am I?
I spend a lot of my days reading posts by other bloggers and I’m often left wanting to know a little more about the writer behind the blog as I read through copious amounts of makeup reviews and book recommendations. Not in a nosy way, (well maybe a little), but mainly in the sense that I love to see the writer’s personality shine through their words, it warrants more of a personal feel to the reading experience, wouldn’t you agree?
With this in mine, I thought I’d hop on here today and share 50 facts about myself as I’ve been reading/watching quite a lot of this type of content lately and, as someone who’s routinely looking to connect with the blogs I read on more of a personal level, I thought it was only right that I offer a window view into other aspects of my life as I can’t be the only one curious to know who the writer’s behind the screen are.Â
So here’s a little more about me, let’s see if we can make it to 50 facts.Â
50 FACTS ABOUT ME
1. I’m 17 years old, edging closer to my 18th but routinely being mistaken for a 14 year old.
2. I am vision impaired due to a degenerative eye condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) which I was diagnosed with when I was six years old.Â
3. I’m also chronically fatigued because of ME/CFS.
4. If I had to choose one meal to eat for the rest of my life, it would be curry, although I can imagine it would get boring after a while.Â
5. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that I was a tomboy when growing up but I had 0 interest in beauty and fashion (oh, how times change), I’d quite happily walk out the door in old jeans and an unfashionable hoodie. Brushing my hair was the only ‘beauty’ regime I’d invest my time in.Â
6. If I wasn’t vision impaired then I’d definitely be dabbling a lot more in photography, I just love the idea of picking up a camera and running away with your creativity.Â
7. I’m very passionate about raising awareness of sight loss, tackling the misconceptions and helping others in a similar situation but I didn’t used to talk about my disability with much of anyone, it can still be a struggle.Â
8. I love fashion so much that I would love to have my own clothing line someday (A girl can dream, right?).
9. Writing is one, if not the biggest, passion I have in life. You’ll always find me tapping away at my keyboard. A career as a writer is something I’m constantly trying to forge for myself.
10. In the same breath, becoming an author would be an absolute dream come true for me. I wrote my first ever short story when I was in primary school and I’d love nothing more than to make my childhood dreams come true.
11. My favourite flowers are lillies.
12. I’m not the biggest football fan, (that’s an understatement), but I do support Everton.
13. I’ve been to about 7 Everton football games to date.
14. I have one younger brother who I’m lucky to call one of my best friends. (End cheese here)
15. I’m a bookworm – you’ll always find me reading a good book
16. I hate to be a cliche but my favourite TV show is Friends, I’ve watched every episode at least three times (and counting), it’s my comfort show, if that’s a thing?
17. I always look into the ingredients of beauty products before making a purchase, I think it’s important that we know what we’re putting onto our skin (Call me boring, I do)
18. My top three music artists? Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes (in no particular order)
19. I love music and composing my own songs, I have in fact composed over 70 songs but i’ve never played them to anyone.
20. I play the piano, harp, guitar and I’ve dabbled a little with the ukulele.
21. I started this blog to showcase my love of writing but, I’ll let you in on a little secret, it was also because I was feeling really lonely at the time because of my disability and I wanted something to help me nurture and combat that feeling.
22. Topshop wins the prize for my favourite clothes shop at the moment.
23. I love nail polish and my collection is slowly growing, I don’t like painting my nails but I do like the end result!
24. My favourite season is spring.
25. I am on a gluten free diet due to having Coeliac disease.
26.I have learned braille in three different languages; English, Welsh and French
27. Being outside makes my heart happy
28. Some of the countries/places on my travel bucket list include Canada, New York, California, Paris, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Germany and the Maldives
29. I’m known to have a slightly sarcastic sense of humour
30. I am slightly obsessed with handbags, I have far too many!
31. I am a very self conscious person
32. Anxiety has been a constant fixture in my life for a few years now
33. I can come off as very shy but I’m a completely different person when you see me with family and friends
34. I will be finishing sixth form this year (only a few more exams to go, thankfully) and I will then be moving on to the world of work, committing to a role in the charity sector.
35. I have a very bad phobia of bees and wasps.
36. One of my main goals for the next year is to attend a live concert (it’s shocking that I’ve never been to one as someone who loves music so much).
37. I am probably one of the most indecisive people you will ever meet.
38. I have been for a set tour of Coronation Street. (Yes, I am secretly a 70 year old in a 17 year olds body)
39. I have been keeping a daily diary for the past 4 years. (Last point proven)
40. I love researching my family history.
41. I can be a very empathetic person, if you cry, I’ll cry with you.
42. I’m privy to watching a good quiz show, The Chase is one of my favourites
43. I am 5ft 3 inches tall.
44. Apple is my favourite technology brand, their built-in accessibility features are the best I’ve come across
45. I stand by the saying ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’, as I’m vision impaired I always need things to be kept in the same place otherwise it’s a mad treasure hunt.
46. One of my favourite ever quotes is, ‘Everyone wants happiness, no one wants pain but you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain.’ Isn’t that lovely?
47. I love waking up early even on the weekends, I don’t like the thought of wasting a part of my day just lying in bed.
48. I set my alarms at extremely random times, I can never set it on a normal time like 7:00, I would always have to set it to either 6:59 or 7:01. Don’t judge me.
49. Two of my favourite films are The Fault in Our Stars and Pitch Perfect.
50. I had swimming lessons as a child but I can’t swim for the life of me. (What a spectacular note to end on).
So that’s me in a nutshell. A few strands of my life condensed into 50 short facts, the things that are at the core of my being. There’s no doubt that things will have changed when I look back on this four or five years down the line but for now, my focus lies in shaping this platform into more of a personal diary, if you will, where I aim to share the minutiae of my life in the hope that it can raise awareness and help others in a similar situation because, along with my never ending urge to write and write some more, that’s one of the main reasons I’m here, sharing my story.Â
I’ve done my part here so now it’s your turn, feel free to tell one interesting fact about you so we can get to know each other better in this little community of ours. I’d love to chat xÂ

Lovely post. 🙂 I can be fairly quiet until people get to know me better as well. And I have quite a sarcastic sense of humour and am very happy to take the mickey out of myself. I usually watch Pointless, the BBC’s rival to The Chase, but both shows are good. I just wish Pointless would do longer runs of new episodes at once, as they go back to repeats very frequently. I love Apple products too – I have an iMac, iPhone, and iPod (though I don’t particularly need the latter with a phone now), and I’m tempted to get an Apple TV next. And the alarm-setting thing isn’t that unusual – my radio is set to come on at 6:59 on weekdays, which gives me a minute to wake up in time to hear the news headlines. Although, quite often, I’ll wake up shortly before it’s due to go off anyway, like 6:55 or even 6:58. Happens to a lot of people I think. 🙂

GlenThank you for your comment Glen! I watch pointless occassionally but not as often as I used too, i think I stopped watching it because of the fact that they repeat episodes as you said. Aww I’m so glad I’m not the only one with the alarm thing haha, I don’t feel so alone anymore 😂 Thank you for reading 🙂

Hello again Elin, Thank you for sharing!
In response to numbers 9 & 10. I think they are closer than you think.
A lot of young writers now are doing exactly what you are doing, writing
their own blogs & journaling. Even taking a collection of your favorite blog
posts, & formatting them into a small book or edition is another step in that
direction. We no longer live in a world where we as creatives have to wait
for a book deal or publisher to approve our opinions & content, all this
technology is at our fingertips. Having a blog you have already made an
impact & have a connection with your readers. The future is full of possibility.
