  • My goals for 2018

Everyone loves to set themselves a new goal at the start of the new year, don’t they? I’m personally not one for making those common resolutions that everyone and their mother makes at the beginning of a new year, it’s just not me. However, something I do like to do is set myself some goals for the upcoming months, they don’t have to be anything drastic, they’re just little things that I can aim for to keep me motivated throughout the year.

A photo of a macbook and iPhone with a printed quote next to them that says 'a goal without a plan is just a wish.'

Unless I write these goals down, I find it’s easy to forget about them so as I wrote them all down in the notes on my phone for me to look back on them throughout the year, I thought why not share them with all of you aswell? Plus publishing this on my blog will also make it easier for me to look back on them as I know they’d get lost in the endless amounts of pointless things that end up being written in my phone’s notes.

So here are some of the goals I’m hoping to achieve in 2018.

    1. Have more confidence in myself

Although my confidence improved in some way during 2017, it was knocked on more than one occasion and caused me to not only lose confidence when talking to people but to also lose confidence in myself. I am guilty of doubting myself and my ability at times and I really want to aim to change that this year. I tried really hard to build on my confidence in 2017 but I don’t think I managed to do as well as I hoped I would and the setbacks I had made it even harder but I’m hoping I can work even harder on it this year and really start to develop the confidence in myself and then hopefully that will shine through to others aswell. I’m hoping that I can be the real me in 2018 and that I can have confidence in that person and be her unapologetically.

    2. Work hard

I’ve always been one for pushing myself to reach the best of my ability, I always like to succeed and do well in whatever I do, I’d like to think that’s the right attitude to have. I’m going to be starting to study a BA honours degree with The Open University in the next month or so and I’m determined to work hard to achieve what I want to achieve. I’ve been working a lot on my blog in the last few months also and I want to keep up with that and hopefully create new and interesting content for you all to read.

    3. Be more decisive

if you read my post about the 17 things I learned in 2017 then you’ll remember me saying I learned that I’m not that great at making decisions. I’m really hoping I can work on this in 2018 and that I can learn to be more assertive. I’m not sure how I can make this happen yet but I’m sure there’s a way to figure it out.

    4. Talk more

I am one of those people who has a tendency to keep what I’m feeling to myself or not to say the things I really want to say. I guess that’s lack of confidence or just the fear of telling things to someone and not knowing what their reaction will be, maybe that doesn’t make sense to many of you but it does to me, well in a way. I definitely improved on opening up and talking more to the people closest to me last year but I didn’t manage it with others. I’m hoping that this is something I can continue to work on this year because I know it’s something that can be improved.

    5. Look for work experience

I’ve been job searching for quite a few months now but there isn’t anything out there which I feel like I’d enjoy or I could apply my skills to. As I mentioned previously, I always try my best to work hard and show that I’m prepared to do that to other people so I don’t want there to be a gap in my CV. This is why one of my main goals for this year is to look for work experience and gain new skills because that’s something I love to do.

    6. Connect more with fellow bloggers

One of the things I love the most about blogging is the community that comes along with it and the lovely people I’ve had the chance to talk to since becoming a blogger. But I must admit that I don’t make the most of the blogging community but again, I’m hoping to change that this year. I love discovering new blogs to read and bloggers to chat to, there’s just something really lovely about talking to someone who shares the same passions as you and knows what you’re talking about and who share your views when it comes to ranting about the instagram algorithms.

    7. Spend more time with friends

One thing I was guilty of in 2017 was not spending enough time with my friends so I’m determined to change that this year. 2017 taught me that time spent with friends is the most valuable time and they’re the times I feel completely myself. They are the people who understand and share my complete randomness and who encourage me to be myself at all times. So I’m definitely making this one of my main goals this year as I find that the times I spend with my friends are often my happiest moments.

    8. Help and motivate others

If you’ve been around on my blog for a while then you’ll know that one of my main aims of writing is to help and motivate others. I try to do this by writing about my experiences and writing about things that hopefully some of you find relatable. Every time I receive a message or a comment saying that my blog has helped someone in some way, I feel quite touched because it makes me realise that this is all worthwhile and that I’m achieving something I’ve always wanted to achieve. I am so passionate about helping others and motivating them to believe in themselves and their potential and I’m hoping that I can do more of this in 2018 whether it be on or offline. If I can help only just one person then that’s good enough for me.

So those were just some of my goals for 2018, a few things that I’m aiming to achieve, I guess we’ll find out if I’ve succeeded or not at the end of the year.

What are some of your goals for 2018? I hope you achieve everything that you want to.

Nice post. I’ve only just started blogging (a book blog of sorts) but I can already see it’s more challenging than it seems at first. Which is why I’m seeing what’s out there at the moment, and finding blogs like yours is inspiring in its own way. For me, making New Year’s resolutions is only one side of the coin, and the other is acknowledging how far you’ve come and what you’ve already achieved. Important to reflect on both, I think. Having a look at your blog, it sounds like you’ve already accomplished quite a bit.

      Good luck with 2018.
