Blogging influences our lives in more ways than we realise. Have you ever considered how many hours you spend writing a blog post, reading posts by your favourite bloggers, sharing those posts on social media and with your family and friends?
How many blogs do you read? Do they all publish similar content? Are they based on the topics of beauty and fashion? Or maybe they’re lifestyle or travel related or a purely educational blog, maybe even a mixture of everything. Have you ever thought about how reading your favourite blogs is changing your views on such topics? Do you ever learn something from the blog posts you read and do you feel like you can take something away from them?
You’re probably thinking wow Elin, stop asking all these questions, I’m done now, I promise. I know that was a lot of things to consider but they’re just things that I’ve been thinking about recently. The blogosphere is growing and changing everyday, there are millions of blogs out there, every one of which consisting of topics that blogger is passionate about writing about. They contain advice, guidance, information, thoughts and sometimes just pure entertainment but I’ve recently been asking myself, how are all these blogs changing the world around us? And then came the idea for this post.
I’ve been blogging for nearly three years now and in that time my life has changed in more ways than one, a few of those reasons being because of starting this blog. I wrote about how blogging has changed my life in this post if you fancy giving that a read. I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how much influence creating this blog has had on my life. If I didn’t start this little corner of the internet that I call my own then I wouldn’t have met some of my closest friends, I wouldn’t have had the opportunities that I’ve been lucky enough to receive and I wouldn’t have a mainstream outlet where I can talk openly about my experiences in the hope of helping, motivating and educating others.
So, here are just a few ways that I believe that blogging is changing our world:
It gives people a voice
If blogging didn’t exist, it definitely wouldn’t be as easy for people to share their stories, experiences, opinions and reviews. I believe that blogging has gone from strength to strength in the past few years and with people gaining more interest in hearing about other people’s lives and what they have to say, a blog is the perfect outlet to raise awareness and tackle misconceptions. When I was younger, I knew that I had a lot to say, I knew that I wanted to share my experiences and try to raise awareness of what life as a vision impaired person is really like but I didn’t know how or where I could express myself, plus there was that small matter that I was too shy to speak to anyone. But since coming across the world of blogging and deciding to create my own blog back in 2015, I feel like I have finally found my voice and I can finally talk confidently about my experiences and what I’m passionate about.
There are so many people out there who have so much to say. From those who love to tell the world about their new favourite lipstick to those who are trying to raise awareness of topics such as disability, mental health, parenting and so much more. Blogging gives all these people the opportunity to tell the world how they feel and I for one think that’s amazing.
Following on from the last point, blogging is now the perfect outlet for people to raise awareness of issues they might be facing or experiences they’ve had/are having in their lives. It’s the perfect opportunity to raise awareness of topics that some people might not have heard of before or they might not have a clear understanding of a particular subject. I believe that blogging is now a form of educating others in a more modern and accessible way. Most blogs are available for anyone to read and there are so many people who are passionate about raising awareness of different topics and issues. Personally, I believe that blogging is now a source of learning, a chance to change perspectives. It’s changing some people’s views on certain topics and I for one think that’s so important.
A few years ago, there was no suggestion that there was any kind of money in blogging let alone the fact that it could become someone’s career and livelihood. Even when I started, I had no idea that making money was an option. So many people now consider blogging to be their full-time job, how amazing is that? I think it’s incredible that blogging is now offering a source of income and a form of employment for so many people. Blogging is often regarded by some people as not being a ‘real job’ but I don’t think it’s always evident how much work and effort goes in to running a blog. Even though it’s not, it does feel like writing this blog of mine is a full-time job at times because it can be very time-consuming between everything there is to do.
There are so many roles which coincide with being a blogger: a writer, proofreader, editor, photographer, social media manager and so much more. Every one of which makes blogging a worthy job that so many people work hard at.
There is no doubt that blogging has provided so many people with amazing opportunities and I’m very lucky to have had many myself, those of which I’m so grateful for. There are so many incredibly successful bloggers out there and I truly admire those people as they’ve worked hard on their platforms and brands and therefore are so deserving of the opportunities they receive.
A new way of meeting people
I never knew that the world of blogging would open the door to a vast amount of new friendships. I know that it’s so important to be cautious of who you talk to online and it’s still something I’m skeptical about from time to time. However, the world of blogging and social media allows people to meet others who have similar interests to them in a more accessible way than ever. I’ve had the opportunity to meet amazing people through blogging and I’m so grateful for that. I think it’s amazing that people can now form such close friendships through blogging. I know of many people who consider blogging to be the source that led them to meet their closest friends, it allows people to connect with others all around the world and although that concept can be frightening for some people, I think that most often than not, it’s such a positive thing and I’m glad that so many people are now able to connect with others and form friendships through blogging and social media.
All of the above are just a few ways in which I believe that blogging is changing our world. I believe that blogging is such a great opportunity for so many people to express themselves and their creativity, it’s a platform for people to talk about what they’re passionate about and connect with other people. I’ve heard so many people say that blogging has changed their lives and I’m definitely in agreement with those people. Some might say that social media and the world of blogging can be a negative place and I agree that it can be at times, but I think that it has such a positive impact on our world and I hope that the influence of the blogosphere continues to grow in the coming years.
I’d love to know what you think about this topic, how do you think the blogosphere is influencing and changing the world around us?
