About
Named as one of the most influential disabled people in the UK in 2018, and one of the BBC 100 Women in 2020, Elin Williams is the 20-something Welsh girl behind the award-winning disability and lifestyle blog, My Blurred World.
My blog began as a platform with a focus on accessible beauty but I’ve since expanded my written roster, covering everything from confidence to concert experiences. But my main focus lies in sharing honest accounts of my experiences of living as a vision impaired person in a world which wasn’t designed for those of us who can’t see.
I am likely to overshare when it comes to my impairment, so expect to find many raw, long-reads that capture my innermost thoughts.
While I don’t gloss over any of the challenges that come hand-in-hand with living as a disabled person, I’m extremely passionate about highlighting the positives and seeking light in the darkest moments.
You will most likely find me at a concert, reading a good book, watching football, styling my next outfit, or tapping away at my laptop, either working or writing the next instalment of my blog.
I was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition, Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), when I was six, three years after my initial symptoms were noted. I later acquired Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) as a teenager.
I have worked and volunteered in the third sector for the last decade; taking on roles such as being a Young Ambassador for VICTA UK in 2018, and now a mentor for LOOK UK, not forgetting my day job as a Marketing and Communications Officer.
I created my blog back in April 2015 with the aim of creating the very platform I could have benefited from coming across when I was younger.
I guess here is as good a place as any to bring you my mission statement, whilst trying not to overcompensate.
I’m passionate about raising awareness but, ultimately, my main aim here is to provide some kind of reassurance for others in a similar situation by gently reminding them that they’re not alone.
You’ll find a little bit of everything in the depths of these online pages, from the occasional fashion feature and concert experience, to introspective diary entries and personal musings; all of which are punctuated with my trademark ramblings on all things vision impairment.
If you’re a fellow disabled person who’s searching for reassurance; a non-disabled person who’s looking to learn a little something; or simply a fellow writer, bookworm or concert-goer who’s navigating their twenties – this space is for you.
To my surprise, My Blurred World has evolved in more ways than I could have imagined since I hit the publish button for the very first time, and has somehow managed to pick up a few accolades over the years.
Some of which include:
Madness, I’m telling you.
So that’s me, my blog, and a little insight as to what you can find in-between.
I used to publish a new blog post every Sunday evening at 8pm, however as life gets busier, my write-ups are a little more sporadic. Please feel free to sign up to my mailing list so you’re the first to know when new posts are published. Until then, there’s plenty of archived features to have a read through.
If you have any questions or you’d like to keep updated with my life away from my blog, you can find me on X, Facebook, Instagram and Bluesky – come say hi! You can also email me – elin@myblurredworld.com – I can’t wait to hear from you.
